The Bistrik railway station was built in 1906, when the construction of the Eastern Railway, from Sarajevo to Uvac, was completed. In 1973, the Bistrik station building completely lost its basic significance. It was declared a National Monument of BiH in 2006. Renovation began in October 2020.

Further information

The eastbound track, which connected Sarajevo to the eastern parts of BiH, became operational in 1906 as part of a railway construction project launched during the period of Austro-Hungarian rule. That same year, a railway station was built in Bistrik in the Alpine-Romantic style of the Austro-Hungarian period. A buffet, a building for the railway manager, a storage facility, a lot, a tunnel, and a bridge were all constructed as part of the facility. Work on the eastbound single gauge track came to an end in 1973, and the Bistrik station lost its original function when the celebrated Ćiro train stopped running. This train was made famous by the Partisan film, Walter Defends Sarajevo. Over the next decade, the station fell into a state of disrepair because of the war and a lack of adequate upkeep. The building once used by the manager and the covered platform is now part of a residential building, but the other parts of the complex are dilapidated. A city bypass runs past the station, along the route that was once lined with a railway track. The old Bistrik railway station was declared a National Monument of BiH in 2006. In June 2019, the City Council of the City of Sarajevo unanimously adopted a decision enabling the settlement of all property and legal relations necessary for the reconstruction of the National Monument Bistrik Railway Station. Renovation began in October 2020, only to shine again, less than two years later.
